Expansion Valve: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and discharge A/C system.
2. Disconnect refrigerant lines from evaporator at engine compartment fire wall.
3. Remove rubber bushing from inlet and outlet fittings at engine fire wall.
4. Remove side air duct, under tray and glove box assembly.
5. Remove fire evaporator mounting bolts and remove evaporator, Fig. 2.
6. Remove thermistor cover screws, then remove thermistor and cover.
7. Remove eight evaporator housing cover clips and separate housing covers.

8. Remove heat insulator and clamp from evaporator outlet tube, Fig. 3.
9. Remove pressure switch from inlet line and disconnect inlet line tube from expansion valve, Fig. 3.
10. Remove expansion valve from inlet fitting of evaporator, Fig. 3.
11. Reverse procedure to install. Torque expansion valve to evaporator inlet fitting to 21-25 ft. lbs and torque inlet line tube to expansion valve to 9-11 ft. lbs. Evacuate and recharge system. Check for leaks.
