Parking Brake System: Adjustments

1. Apply parking brake and count number of notches on parking brake sector. Specified number of notches should be as follows: 4-7 for Celica, 5-8 for Corolla with drum brakes, 6-9 for Corolla with disc brakes, 5-8 for Camry, 5-8 for Tercel sedans, 6-8 for Tercel wagons, 3-6 for Starlet, and 7-9 for Van models.



2. On Camry, Celica, Corolla, Tercel and except 1987-88 Van models, adjust parking brake as follows:
a. Remove console box, and if necessary, the shift knob.
b. Loosen locknut and turn adjustment screw until lever travel is correct.
c. Tighten locknut and reinstall console, and on Van models, shift knob.
