Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove air cleaner and hose.
2. Disconnect back-up lamp switch connector, then remove speedometer cable.
3. Remove retaining clips, washers, retainers, then the transaxle control cable.
4. If necessary, remove water inlet attaching bolt and nut from transaxle case, then the water inlet.
5. Remove clutch release cylinder, then the under cover.
6. Remove front and rear mounting cover, then disconnect front and rear mounting.
7. Remove engine mounting center member, then remove transaxle protector. Remove driveshaft attaching nuts, then the driveshafts.
8. Disconnect steering knuckle from lower arm, then pull steering knuckle outward and remove left driveshaft.
9. Disconnect starter cable connector, then the starter attaching bolts and starter.
10. Disconnect transaxle ground strap, then the No. 2 engine rear plate.
11. Slightly raise transaxle and engine with suitable jacks, then disconnect left engine mount.
12. Disconnect transaxle to engine mounting bolts, then lower left side of engine and separate transaxle from engine.
13. Reverse procedure to install.
