Expansion Valve: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable and discharge system refrigerant.
2. Disconnect refrigerant lines at cooling unit, capping all openings.
3. Remove grommets from inlet and outlet fittings.
4. Remove glovebox, lower instrument panel cover and the side air duct.
5. Disconnect A/C electrical connector.
6. Remove three nuts and four bolts securing cooling unit and remove cooling unit.
7. Remove idling stabilizer amplifier.
8. Disconnect electrical connector at cooling unit.
9. Remove thermistor.
10. Remove five clamps and two screws securing lower evaporator case, then remove lower evaporator case.
11. Remove two attaching screws, then the upper evaporator case.
12. Reverse procedure to install, then evacuate and recharge system and check for leaks. If evaporator is replaced, add 1.4-1.7 oz. of new refrigerant oil to compressor.
