Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Refrigerant Pressure Sensor / Switch: Testing and Inspection

1. Check refrigerant pressure.
a. Connect the hoses of the manifold gauge set to the suction tube and liquid tube service valves and observe the gauge reading.
b. The gauge reading must be more than 206 kPa (30 psi) when the ambient temperature is higher than 0°C (32°F).
If the pressure is less than 206 kPa (30 psi), charge with refrigerant.
2. Using an ohmmeter, check the continuity between the two terminals of the pressure switch.
The ohmmeter must indicate zero Ohms.
If there is no continuity, replace the pressure switch.
