Distributor Cap: Testing and Inspection

1. Remove the distributor cap.

Ignition Wire Removal:





CAUTION: Carefully remove the ignition wires by pulling on the rubber boots. Do not bend the wire or the conductor may be broken.

2. Check for rough or pitted cap terminals. Scrape or file the carbon deposits if necessary.

3. Check the distributor cap for wear, cracks or other damage. If necessary, clean or replace distributor cap and wires.

4. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of the ignition wires.

5. If the resistance of any wire exceeds 25k ohms, replace the distributor cap and ignition wires as an assembly.
