Hot Idle Compensator (Non Comp. Controlled): Testing and Inspection

1. Remove the hot idle compensator valve from air cleaner housing.
2. Hold your finger over the atmospheric port and blow air through the HAI diaphragm port. Air should pass through the valve and out the carburetor port. Fig. 86
3. Check that air does NOT flow from carburetor port to HAI diaphragm port.
4. With the HIC valve below 79°F, check that air does NOT pass from the HAI diaphragm side through the atmospheric port, while blocking the carburetor port with your finger. Fig. 88

5. Heat the HIC valve thermal cap to above 93°F and check that air flows from the HAI diaphragm side through the atmospheric port, while blocking the carburetor port with your finger. Fig. 89

CAUTION: Do not allow water to enter inside of HIC valve

6. If a problem is found, replace the HIC valve.
7. Reinstall the HIC valve in the air cleaner housing and reattach all the vacuum hoses.
