Ignition Timing: Adjustments

Connecting Jumper Wire:

1. Start and idle engine.
2. Using a jumper wire or Toyota service tool #SST 09843-18020, jump data link connector terminals E1 and TE1.
3. Connect timing light to #1 spark plug wire.

Timing Marks:

4. Check ignition timing with transmission in Neutral and engine cooling fan off.

Timing: 10° BTDC

Timing Adjustment:

5. If reading is incorrect, loosen distributor hold-down bolts and adjust by turning distributor.
6. Retighten hold-down bolts.
7. Disconnect jumper wire from data link connector.
