Ignition Control Module: Testing and Inspection

PROCEDURE

NOTE: This is a test of the Ignition circuit. As there is no component test of the Igniter itself, a process of elimination is used to find if the Igniter is at fault.

1. Remove the ignition coil.
2. Remove the spark plug.
3. Install the spark plug to the ignition coil, and connect the ignition coil connecter.
4. Ground the spark plug.





5. Check if spark occurs while engine is being cranked.

CAUTION: To prevent gasoline from being injected from injectors during this test, crank the engine for no more than 1 - 2 seconds at time.





6. If the spark does not occur, perform the test as illustrated.
