EGR Valve: Testing and Inspection
INSPECTION1. Disconnect negative terminal cable from battery.
2. Remove exhaust gas recirculation vacuum modulator.
3. Remove exhaust gas recirculation gas temperature sensor.
4. Remove exhaust gas recirculation valve.
- Loosen the exhaust gas recirculation pipe union nut.
- Remove the 2 nuts holding the exhaust gas recirculation valve to the air intake chamber.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose from the exhaust gas recirculation valve.
- Using vise pliers, remove the 2 stud bolts, exhaust gas recirculation valve and gasket.
5. Inspect exhaust gas recirculation valve.
- Check for sticking and heavy carbon deposits. If a problem is found, replace the valve.
6. Reinstall exhaust gas recirculation valve.
- Using vise pliers, temporarily install a new gasket, and exhaust gas recirculation valve with the 2 stud bolts.
Torque: 10 Nm (8 ft lb)
- Connect the vacuum hose to the exhaust gas recirculation valve.
- Install the 2 nuts holding the exhaust gas recirculation valve to the air intake chamber.
Torque: 19 Nm (14 ft lb)
- Tighten the union nut of the exhaust gas recirculation pipe.
Torque: 64 Nm (47 ft lb)
7. Reinstall exhaust gas recirculation gas temperature sensor.
Torque: 20 Nm (14 ft lb)
8. Reinstall exhaust gas recirculation vacuum modulator.
Torque: 18 Nm (13 ft lb)
9. Reconnect negative terminal cable to battery.
