Cruise Control Switch: Service and Repair

For the following procedures, refer to Figs. 6 and 7 for component replacement.

1. On models with airbag, disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. On models less airbag, disconnect battery ground.
3. On all models, remove steering wheel, then upper and lower steering column covers.
4. On models with airbag, remove four screws, disconnect connectors and remove spiral cable sub-assembly.
5. On all models, disconnect combination switch connector, then using a small screwdriver, disengage wiring from combination switch connector. Note position of wires.
6. On models with cruise control, removal of slip ring may be necessary.
7. On all models, remove screws and ball set plate. Remove ball and slide out light control switch assembly with spring.
8. On models with type A combination switch, remove headlight dimmer and turn signal switch by removing four and switch assembly.
9. On model with type B combination switch, remove headlight dimmer and turn signal switch as follows:
a. Pry loose two locking lugs and remove turn signal switch.
b. Remove two screws and dimmer switch.
c. Remove headlight dimmer switch pin from switch body with spring.
10. On all models, remove two screws and wiper washer switch, if equipped in column.
11. Remove two screws and cruise control switch. Then remove horn contact.
12. Reverse procedure to install. Ensure light control switch operates correctly before final assembly. Ensure terminals are seated in connectors completely. Arm airbag system as previously described.
