Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. REMOVE RH ENGINE HOOD SIDE PANEL.
2. WARM UP ENGINE.
3. CONNECT TACHOMETER AND TIMING LIGHT TO ENGINE.

Terminal IG- In DLC1 Provides The Engine RPM Signal:

- Connect the tester probe of a tachometer to terminal IG(-) of the DLC1.

NOTICE:
- Never allow the tachometer terminal to touch ground as it could result in damage to the igniter and/or ignition coil.
- As some tachometers are not compatible with this ignition system, we recommend that you confirm the compatibility of your unit before use.

4. ADJUST IGNITION TIMING.

Jump TE1 And E1 To Adjust Base Ignition Timing:

- Using a jumper wire (or SST 09843-18020), connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the data link connector (DLC1).
- After engine rpm is kept at 1,000 - 1,300 rpm for 5 seconds, check that it returns to idle speed.

- Using a timing light, check the ignition timing.

Ignition timing: 10° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral position).

- Loosen the 2 bolts, and adjust by turning the distributor.
- Tighten the 2 bolts, and recheck the ignition timing.

Torque: 19 Nm (195 kg/cm, 14 ft.lb)

- Remove the jumper from DLC1.

5. FURTHER CHECK IGNITION TIMING.
- With the jumper removed from DLC1, recheck ignition timing.

Ignition timing: 0 - 10° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral position).

HINT: The timing mark moves in a range between 0°and 10° BTDC.

6. DISCONNECT TACHOMETER AND TIMING LIGHT FROM ENGINE.
7. REINSTALL RH ENGINE HOOD SIDE PANEL.
