Ignition Timing: Adjustments

Setting Ignition Timing:

1. Start and idle engine.

2. Using a jumper wire or Toyota service tool #SST 09843-18020, jump Data Link Connector (DLC) 1 terminals E1 and TE1.

3. Connect timing light to #1 Spark Plug Wire.

Checking Ignition Timing:

4. Check ignition timing with transmission in Neutral and engine warm, cooling fan OFF.

Timing: 10° BTDC

Setting Ignition Timing:

5. If reading is incorrect, loosen Distributor hold-down bolts and adjust by turning Distributor.

6. Retighten hold-down bolts.

7. Disconnect jumper wire from DLC 1.
