Removal and Installation






REMOVAL
1. Remove the front wheel.
Torque: 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.).
2. w/ABS
Remove ABS speed sensor.
Remove the ABS speed sensor set bolt and clamp.
Torque: 8.0 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
3. Check the bearing backlash and axle hub deviation.
a. Remove the 2 bolts, brake caliper and disc.
b. Support the brake caliper securely.





c. Using a dial indicator, check the backlash near the center of the axle hub.
Maximum: 0.08 mm (0.0031 inch).
If the backlash exceeds the maximum, replace the bearing.
d. Using a dial indicator, check the deviation at the surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt.
Maximum: 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch).
If the deviation exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub.
e. Install the disc, brake caliper and 2 bolts.
Torque: 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.)





4. Remove the drive shaft lock nut.
a. Remove the cotter pin and lock cap.
b. While Applying the brakes, remove the nut.
Torque: 216 Nm (159 ft. lbs.).
c. Remove the caliper and disc.





5. Loosen the two nuts on lower side of shock absorber.

HINT: Do not remove the bolts.

Torque: 153 Nm (113 ft. lbs.).





6. Disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle.
a. Remove the cotter pin and nut.
Torque: 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.)
b. Using Special Service Tool (SST) 09610 - 20012, disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.





7. Disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the lower suspension arm.

HINT: If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a 5 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud.

Torque: 44 Nm (33 ft. lbs.)





8. Disconnect the lower suspension arm from the lower ball joint.
Remove the bolt and two nuts.
Torque: 127 Nm (94 ft. lbs.).
9. Remove steering knuckle with axle hub.
a. Remove the two nuts and bolt on the lower side of the shock absorber.

HINT: At the time of installation, coat the nut's threads with engine oil.

b. Remove the steering knuckle with axle hub.

INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse of removal. After installation, check ABS speed sensor signal and front wheel alignment. See TSB DL001-98
