Removal and Installation






REMOVAL
1. REMOVE BATTERY





2. DISCONNECT THROTTLE CABLE





3. w/Cruise Control System: REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL ACTUATOR
a. Remove the cruise control actuator cover.
b. Disconnect the connector from the cruise control actuator.
c. Remove the 3 bolts and cruise control actuator.
4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the connector.
b. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
5. REMOVE 2 GROUND CABLE MOUNTING BOLTS





Torque. 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.)





Torque: 64 Nm (650 kgf.cm, 47 ft. lbs.)





6. REMOVE 4 ENGINE LEFT MOUNTING UPPER SIDE BOLTS

Torque: 64 Nm (650 kgf.cm, 47 ft. lbs.)





7. REMOVE STARTER
a. Remove the nut and disconnect the connector and terminal.
b. Remove the 2 bolts and starter.

Torque: 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.)

8. DISCONNECT VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR CONNECTOR
9. DISCONNECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONNECTOR
10. DISCONNECT 2 SOLENOID CONNECTORS





11. REMOVE 3 TRANSAXLE MOUNTING BOLTS

Torque: 64 Nm (650 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.)





12. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER HOSE
Loosen the 2 clips and disconnect the 2 oil cooler hoses.





13. INSTALL ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE
14. RAISE UP VEHICLE
15. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVERS
16. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (ATF)
17. REMOVE LH AND RH DRIVE SHAFTS
18. JACK UP TRANSAXLE





19. DISCONNECT SHIFT CONTROL CABLE
a. Remove the nut from the control shaft lever.

Torque: 13 Nm (135 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.)

b. Remove the clip and disconnect the shift control cable.





20. REMOVE ENGINE REAR MOUNTING BOLT

Torque: 88 Nm (890 kgf-cm, 64 ft. lbs.)

21. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE
a. Remove the 2 bolts from the exhaust pipe.

Torque: 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.)





b. Remove the 2 bolts, nut and exhaust pipe stay from the suspension member.

Torque: 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.)





c. Remove the 2 bolts and nuts.

Torque: 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)

d. Disconnect the front exhaust pipe and remove the gasket.

HINT: At the time of installation, please refer to the following item. Replace the used 2 nuts and gasket with new ones.

e. Remove the 3 nuts, front exhaust pipe and gasket.

Torque: 62 Nm (630 kgf-cm, 46 ft. lbs.)

HINT: At the time of installation, please refer to the following item. Replace the used 3 nuts and gasket with new ones.

22. REMOVE SUSPENSION MEMBER





a. Disconnect the air conditioner pipe bracket.
b. Remove the 2 shift cable mounting bolts.





c. Remove the 2 power steering gear assembly set bolts and nuts.

Torque: 127 Nm (1,300 kgf-cm, 94 ft. lbs.)





d. Remove the 3 grommets.
e. Remove the 13 bolts and 2 nuts.

Torque:
A Bolt: 35 Nm (360 kgf-cm, 26 ft. lbs.)
B Bolt: 80 Nm (820 kgf-cm, 59 ft. lbs.)
C Bolt: 175 Nm (1,800 kgf-cm, 130 ft. lbs.)
D Bolt: 127 Nm (1,300 kgf-cm, 94 ft. lbs.)
E Bolt: 167 Nm (1,700 kgf-cm, 123 ft. lbs.)
Nut: 80 Nm (820 kgf-cm, 59 ft. lbs.)






23. REMOVE STIFFENER PLATE
a. Remove the nut, bolt and No.1 manifold stay.

Torque:
Bolt: 21 Nm (210 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.)
Nut: 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)


b. Remove the 6 bolts and stiffener plate.

Torque:
12 mm Bolt: 21 Nm (210 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.)
14 mm Bolt: 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)


24. REMOVE TRANSAXLE





a. Turn the crankshaft to gain access and remove the 6 bolts while holding the crankshaft pulley set bolt with a wrench.

Torque: 25 Nm (250 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.)

Sealant: Part No.08833-00070, THREE BOND 1324 or equivalent

HINT: At the time of installation, please refer to the following item. First install gray colored bolt and then 5 other bolts.





b. Remove the 3 bolts and transaxle.

Torque:
10 mm Bolt: 46 Nm (470 kgf-cm, 34 ft. lbs.)
12 mm Bolt: 64 Nm (650 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.)



INSTALLATION





1. CHECK TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH INSTALLATION
Using a scale and a straight edge, measure the distance from the installation surface to the front surface of the transaxle housing.

Correct distance: More than 13.0 mm (0.512 inch)

2. TRANSAXLE INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

HINT:
^ After installation, adjust the throttle cable, shift cable and park/neutral position switch.
^ Fill Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) and check fluid level.
^ Test drive the vehicle.
