Timing Cover: Service and Repair

Timing Gear Case or Timing Chain Case Oil Seal Replacement


REPLACEMENT
1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL RH
2. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD FRONT RH
3. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH
4. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING STAY NO. 2 RH
5. REMOVE ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSY NO. 1





6. REMOVE ENGINE MOVING CONTROL ROD W/ BRACKET
a. Remove the 3 bolts and engine moving control rod w/ bracket.
7. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET NO. 2 RH
8. REMOVE FAN AND GENERATOR V BELT
9. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY





a. Using SST, loosen the pulley bolt.
SST 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021





b. Using SST, remove the crankshaft pulley.
SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021)





10. REMOVE TIMING GEAR CASE OR TIMING CHAIN CASE OIL SEAL
a. Using a knife, cut off the oil seal lip.
b. Using a screwdriver with taping tip, pry out the oil seal.

HINT: After the removal, check if the crankshaft is not damaged. If there is, mend it with sandpaper (#400).

11. INSTALL TIMING GEAR CASE OR TIMING CHAIN CASE OIL SEAL
a. Apply MP grease to a new oil seal lip.

NOTICE: Keep the lip off foreign materials.





b. Using SST and a hammer, tap in the oil seal until its surface is flush with the rear oil seal retainer edge.
SST 09223-22010

NOTICE: Wipe off extra grease on the crankshaft.

12. INSTALL CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
a. Align the pulley set key with the key groove of the pulley.





b. Using SST, install the pulley bolt.
SST 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021
Torque: 170 Nm (1,733 kgf-cm, 125 inch lbs.)
13. INSTALL FAN AND GENERATOR V BELT
SST 09249-63010
14. INSTALL ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET NO. 2 RH
Torque: 52 Nm (531 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.)





15. INSTALL ENGINE MOVING CONTROL ROD W/ BRACKET
a. Install the engine moving control rod w/bracket with 3 bolts.
Torque: 64 Nm (653 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.)
16. INSTALL ENGINE MOUNTING STAY NO. 2 RH
Torque: 64 Nm (653 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.)
17. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL RH
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
18. INSPECT OIL LEAK
