Chassis - General Maintenance

INSPECTION

1. INSPECT STEERING LINKAGE
a. Check the steering wheel freeplay
b. Check the steering linkage for looseness or damage. Check that:
- Tie rod ends do not have excessive play.
- Dust seals and boots are not damaged.
- Boot clamps are not loose.

2. INSPECT SRS AIRBAG
3. INSPECT STEERING GEAR HOUSING OIL
Check the steering gear housing for oil leakage.




4. INSPECT DRIVE SHAFT BOOTS
Inspect the drive shaft boots for clamp looseness, grease leakage or damage.
Also inspect the tightening bolts (drive shaft to differential or side gear shaft) to specified torque.




5. INSPECT BALL JOINT AND DUST COVERS
a. Inspect the ball joints for excessive looseness.
Maximum ball joint vertical play: 0 mm (0 in.)
b. Check the dust cover for damage.

6. CHECK TRANSAXLE OIL (FLUID)
Visually check the transaxle for oil (fluid) leakage.
If leakage is found, check for the cause and repair.

7. REPLACE TRANSAXLE FLUID
a. M/T:
Replace transaxle oil
b. A/T
Replace transaxle (transmission) fluid




8. CHECK REAR DIFFERENTIAL OIL (Only for 4WD)
- Visually check the differential for oil leakage. If leakage is found, check for the cause and repair.
- Remove the filler plug, and feel inside the hole with your finger. Check that the oil comes to within 5 mm (0.20 in.) of the filler hole. If the level is low, add oil until it begins to run out of the filler hole.
Differential oil
Oil Grade: Hypoid gear oil API GL-5
Viscosity : Above -18 °C (0 °F) SAE 90
Below -18 °C (0 °F) SAE 80W - 90 or 80W

9. REPLACE REAR DIFFERENTIAL OIL (4WD only)
10. TIGHTEN BOLTS AND NUTS ON CHASSIS AND BODY
If the vehicle is mainly operated under the rough, muddy road conditions, Tighten the seat mounting bolts. and front and rear suspension member retaining bolts to specified torque.
- Set mounting bolts
Torque: 37 N.m (375 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf)




- Front suspension member - to body mounting bolts.
Torque:
Bolt A: 206 N.m (2,100 kgf.cm, 152 ft.lbf)
Bolt B: 137 N.m (1,400 kgf.cm, 101 ft.lb)
Bolt C: 28 N.m (290 kgf.cm, 21 ft.lbf)




- Rear suspension member - to body mounting bolts.
Torque: 127 N.m (1,300 kgf.cm, 94 ft.lbf)
