Under certain conditions, some 2003 -- 2004 model year Celica vehicles may exhibit M.I.L. "ON" with DTC P0300 (Random Misfire) and/or P030# (Single Cylinder Misfire). The Engine Control Module (ECM) (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM) logic has been modified to correct this condition.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2003 - 2004
model year Celica vehicles equipped with 1ZZ-FE engine and manual transmission produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Should a M.I.L. "ON" condition with DTC P0300 and/or P030# be encountered, perform diagnostic procedures as described in ETAS 2003 or 2004 model year Celica Repair Manual:
Section: Diagnostics: Engine (1ZZ-FE); Subsection: P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected (Celica).







2. If the problem source cannot be identified after checking all affected areas according to ETAS, the cause may be an ECM (PCM) logic malfunction. In this case, replace the ECM (PCM) with the updated part according to ETAS:
- 2003 model year Celica Repair Manual:
Section: Engine Mechanical; Subsection: Engine Unit; Removal (steps 10 a-d).
- 2004 model year Celica Repair Manual:
Section: Mechanical; Subsection: Engine Unit: Removal (steps 12 a-d).
