U140F Automatic Transaxle
U140F AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE: AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SYSTEM: P0711: Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Performance
P0711 - Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Performance
DESCRIPTION
Refer to DTC P0712 P0712.
*: except Mexico Models
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
The ATF temperature sensor converts the ATF temperature to an electrical resistance value. Based on the resistance, the ECM determines the ATF temperature and detects an open or short in the ATF temperature sensor circuit or a fault in the ATF temperature sensor.
After driving the vehicle for a certain period of time, the ATF temperature should increase. If the ATF temperature is below 20°C (68°F), or 100°C (212°F) or more after driving the vehicle for a certain period of time, the ECM interprets this as a fault, turns on the MIL, and stores the DTC.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTICE:
Perform the universal trip to clear permanent DTCs .
HINT
Using Techstream's Data List allows switch, sensor, actuator and other item values to be read without removing any parts. Reading the Data List early in troubleshooting is one way to save time.
NOTICE:
- In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values.
- Except Mexico models: If DTCs P0711 and P2610 are output simultaneously, confirm that the ATF temperature is as specified in "Normal Condition" using the Techstream first. When the ATF temperature is as specified in "Normal Condition", perform troubleshooting for DTC P2610 P2610.
1. Warm up the engine.
2. Turn the ignition switch off.
3. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.
6. Follow the instructions on the Techstream and read the Data List.
HINT
- When DTC P0712 is output and the Techstream output is 150°C (302°F) or more, there is a short circuit.
- When DTC P0713 is output and the Techstream output is -40°C (-40°F), there is an open circuit.
- Check the temperature displayed on the tester in order to check if a malfunction exists.
HINT
- If a circuit related to the ATF temperature sensor becomes open, P0713 is set in approximately 0.5 seconds.
- It is not necessary to inspect the circuit when P0711 is set.
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0711)
(a) Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
(c) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(d) Read the DTCs using the Techstream.
Result:
HINT
If any other codes besides P0711 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.
B -- GO TO DTC CHART
A -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK TRANSAXLE FLUID LEVEL
(a) Check the transaxle fluid level.
OK:
Automatic transaxle fluid level is correct.
NG -- ADD FLUID
OK -- REPAIR OR REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE
