P2009

2AR-FE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: P2009,P2010: Intake Manifold Runner Control Circuit Low (Bank 1)

DESCRIPTION

The ECM activates the DC motor for the Tumble Control Valve (TCV), which opens and closes the TCV. The ECM activates the DC motor based on engine speed, coolant temperature, intake air temperature and other conditions.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

When the voltage of the DC motor deviates from the standard range, the ECM determines that a malfunction has occurred and outputs a DTC.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

3. Turn the Techstream on.

4. Clear the DTCs.

5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Coolant Temp.

6. Check that the coolant temperature is 60°C (140°F) or higher.

7. Wait approximately 10 seconds [A].

8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All readiness.

9. Input the DTC: P2009 or P2010.

10. Check the DTC judgment result [B].

HINT
If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

11. If the test result is UNKNOWN, enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Code / Pending.

12. Read Pending DTCs.

HINT
If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

13. If the test result is INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN and no pending DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs DTC Check / Clear.

HINT
- If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT
Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT INTAKE MANIFOLD (DC MOTOR FOR TCV OPERATION)

(a) Inspect the intake manifold Intake System.

NG -- REPLACE INTAKE MANIFOLD Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - DC MOTOR FOR TCV)

(a) Disconnect the ECM connector.

(b) Disconnect the intake air control valve actuator connector.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance (Check for open)::

Standard Resistance (Check for short)::

(d) Reconnect the ECM connector.

(e) Reconnect the intake air control valve actuator connector.

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P2009 OR P2010)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Clear DTCs DTC Check / Clear.

(e) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

(f) Read DTCs.
