ABS (Antilock Brake System)

BRAKE CONTROL: ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM: C0210/33,C0215/34,C1273/73,C1274/74: Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Signal Malfunction
C1274/74 - Low Output Signal of Rear Speed Sensor LH (Test Mode DTC)

DESCRIPTION

The speed sensors detect the wheel speeds and send appropriate signals to the skid control ECU. Speed sensor rotors have rows of alternating N and S magnetic poles, and their magnetic fields change as the rotors turn.

The speed sensors detect those magnetic changes and send pulse signals to the skid control ECU. The ECU monitors the wheel speeds through these pulse signals to control the ABS control system. DTCs C1273/73 and C1274/74 can be deleted when the speed sensor sends a vehicle speed signal or the Test Mode ends. DTCs C1273/73 and C1274/74 are output only in the Test Mode.

HINT
* DTCs C0210/33 and C1273/73 are for the rear speed sensor RH.
* DTCs C0215/34 and C1274/74 are for the rear speed sensor LH.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (REAR SPEED SENSOR)

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(c) Start the engine.

(d) Select the Data List mode on the Techstream Data List / Active Test.

ABS/VSC/TRAC:

(e) Check that there is no difference between the speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the Techstream and the speed value displayed on the speedometer when driving the vehicle.

HINT
There is tolerance of +/-10% in the speedometer indication.

OK:

There is almost no difference with the displayed speed value.

NG -- CHECK REAR SPEED SENSOR INSTALLATION
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. PERFORM TEST MODE (SIGNAL CHECK)

(a) Perform sensor check in Test Mode procedure Test Mode Procedure.

OK:

All Test Mode DTCs are erased.

NG -- CHECK REAR SPEED SENSOR INSTALLATION
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. RECONFIRM DTC

(a) Clear the DTC ABS (Antilock Brake System).

(b) Start the engine.

(c) Drive the vehicle at a speed of 20 km/h (12 mph) or more for at least 30 seconds.

(d) Check if the same DTC is recorded ABS (Antilock Brake System).

Result

B -- REPLACE REAR SPEED SENSOR

A -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS (SYMPTOM SIMULATION) How To Proceed With Troubleshooting

4. CHECK REAR SPEED SENSOR INSTALLATION

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Check the speed sensor installation.

OK:

There is no clearance between the sensor and rear axle carrier.

Torque : 8.3 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 73 in-lbf)

NG -- INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR CORRECTLY Installation
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK REAR SPEED SENSOR

(a) Visually check the speed sensor for deformation and damage.

OK:

No deformation or damage.

There is no gap between the sensor and rear axle carrier.

NG -- REPLACE REAR SPEED SENSOR Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK REAR SPEED SENSOR TIP

(a) Remove the speed sensor Removal.

(b) Check the sensor tip.

OK:

No scratches or foreign matter on the sensor tip.

NG -- CLEAN OR REPLACE SPEED SENSOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

7. INSPECT REAR SPEED SENSOR

(a) Disconnect rear speed sensor connector.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

for RH
for LH

NOTICE:
Check the speed sensor signal after replacement Test Mode Procedure.

NG -- REPLACE SPEED SENSOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE)

(a) Reconnect the speed sensor wire.

(b) Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

for RH
for LH

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

10. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (SENSOR INPUT)

(a) Reconnect the skid control ECU connector.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:

for RH
for LH
