Test Mode Procedure

BRAKE CONTROL: ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM: TEST MODE PROCEDURE

1. TEST MODE PROCEDURE (for Using Techstream)

HINT
* If the ignition switch is turned from the ON to the ACC or LOCK position during test mode, DTCs related to the signal check function will be erased.
* During test mode, the skid control ECU records all DTCs related to the signal check function. By performing the signal check, the codes are erased if normality is confirmed. The codes left over are the codes where an abnormality was found.
(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Check that the steering wheel is in the straight-ahead position.

(c) Check that the shift lever is in the P position and apply the parking brake.

(d) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(e) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(f) Turn the Techstream on.

(g) Switch the skid control ECU to test mode using the Techstream.

Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Utility / Signal Check.

(h) Check that the ABS warning light blinks as shown in the illustration.

HINT
If the ABS warning light does not blink, inspect the ABS warning light circuit and the TS and CG terminal circuit.

(i) Start the engine.

(j) Active the ABS sensor (deceleration sensor, 4WD detection switch, L4 detection switch and speed sensor) in test mode (Signal Check) using Techstream.

2. TEST MODE PROCEDURE (for Using an SST Check Wire)

(d) Using SST, connect terminals TS and CG of the DLC3.

SST : 09843-18040

(e) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(f) Check that the ABS warning light is blinking as shown in the illustration.

HINT
If the ABS warning light does not blink, inspect the ABS warning light circuit and TS and CG terminal circuit.

(g) Start the engine.

(h) Activate the ABS sensor (deceleration sensor and speed sensor) in test mode (Signal Check) using a check wire.

3. DECELERATION SENSOR SIGNAL CHECK

(a) Check that the ABS warning light is blinking as shown in the illustration.

(b) Keep the vehicle stationary on a level surface for 1 second or more.

4. SPEED SENSOR CHECK

(a) Check that the ABS warning light is blinking as shown in the illustration.

(b) Check the speed sensor signal.

(1) Drive the vehicle straight forward at a speed of 45 km/h (28 mph) or more for several seconds.

(2) Drive the vehicle straight rearward at a speed of 3 km/h (1.9 mph) or more for 1 second or more.

(3) Check that the ABS warning light goes off.

HINT
The sensor check may not be completed if the vehicle has its wheels spun or its steering wheel turned during this check.

(c) Stop the vehicle.

NOTICE:
* The speed sensor signal check may not be completed if the speed sensor signal check is started while turning the steering wheel or spinning the wheels.
* After the ABS warning light goes off, if the vehicle speed exceeds 45 km/h (28 mph), a signal check code will be stored again. Decelerate or stop the vehicle before the speed reaches 45 km/h (28 mph).
* If the signal check has not been completed, the ABS warning light blinks while driving and the ABS system does not operate.
HINT
When the signal check has been completed, the ABS warning light goes off while driving and blinks in test mode while stationary.

5. READ DTC OF ABS SENSOR (for Using Techstream)

(a) Read the DTC(s) by following the tester screen.

HINT
* Refer to Techstream operator's manual for further details.
* See the list of DTC.
6. READ DTC OF ABS SENSOR (for Using an SST Check Wire)

(a) Using SST, connect terminals TC and CG of the DLC3.

SST : 09843-18040

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Count the number of blinks of the ABS warning light.

HINT
* See the list of DTC.
* When the system is operating correctly, each light will blink continuously in a pattern of 0.25 seconds on, then 0.25 seconds off.
* When one DTC is output, each lamp will output the same code at 4 second intervals. (For example, Code 21 would be output as 2 flashes, a 1.5-second pause, and then 1 flash)
* When 2 or more DTCs are output, each lamp will output a different code at 2.5-second intervals, and when all codes have been output, there will be a 4-second pause and the sequence will repeat.
* When multiple codes are set, they are output in order starting with the lowest DTC number.
(d) After the check, disconnect the SST from terminals TC and CG of the DLC3.

(e) Turn the ignition switch off.

7. DTC OF SIGNAL CHECK FUNCTION

HINT
The DTCs in this table are only output in test mode.
