Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair

The neutral safety switch is located under the housing at the base of the shift lever.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable and remove shifter knob after loosening setscrew.
2. Remove shifter cover retaining screws and the cover.
3. Remove 2 retaining screws, disconnect wiring harness connector, and remove switch.
4. Reverse procedure to install, then check that engine only starts with selector in park or neutral position.
5. Adjust switch as needed by loosening retaining screws and moving switch body.
