Coil Spring - Installation Position

GROUP

NUMBER

August 31, 1989

MODEL(S):
Vanagon Syncro, all m.y.

SUBJECT:
Coil spring, installation position

The inner diameter of the last winding on the beveled end of the spring (arrow) is slightly smaller than that ot the opposite side of the spring.

If the smaller end of the spring is installed downward (toward the control arm) noises can occur as the spring twists on the base of the control arm during heavy axle springing/braking.

For the above reasons the coil spring must be installed with the smaller tip pointing upwards: NOT as stated in the repair manual.

^ the tip of the spring with the beveled tang (arrow) must be inserted into the UPPER coil spring receptacle
