Step 3, Fuel Injection System, Cleaning




Check this first:

^ Engine MUST be at operating temperature

- remove fuel pump fuse


WARNING

Fire hazard. Do NOT smoke or have anything in the area that can ignite fuel when working on fuel system.


- disconnect fuel inlet line at fuel distributor
- wrap a towel around banjo eyelet (arrow B) to absorb possible fuel drippage
- attach adapter line (from kit) to fuel distributor inlet port (arrow A)



CIS

- disconnect fuel return line at fuel distributor
- install threaded plug, from kit (arrow 1) using a new seal
- install cap nut, from kit, onto fuel return line banjo bolt (arrow 2)



CIS-E

- disconnect fuel return line at fuel pressure regulator
- install threaded plug, from kit (arrow 1) using a new seal
- install cap nut, from kit, onto fuel return line banjo bolt (arrow 2)




Note

The following steps require a second technician to ensure that they are performed without pause. Any delay in starting after attaching the aerosol can could cause flooding and a no-start condition.

- thread aerosol container, P/N: G-001600, into fitting on (supply side) adapter line

- HAND TIGHTEN ONLY
CAUTION

When performing step 3, safety glasses MUST be worn.
CAUTION

FLAMMABLE MATERIAL. Hold aerosol container upright, avoiding ALL electrical contact.

CORROSIVE MATERIAL. Do NOT allow to come in contact with painted surfaced or rubber hoses.

CAUTION

When performing step 3, safety glasses MUST be worn.
- IMMEDIATELY start engine and run at approximately 3000 rpm. Keep engine running until container is empty (approximately 5 minutes) even though engine may run rough and try to stall
- repeat operation with a second container of cleaner

- reinstall fuel lines, using new washers and seals, by following the removal procedures in reverse order


- check for leaks and repair if necessary

- start engine and clean out any remnants of cleaning agent by revving engine several times
- run engine at idle until radiator cooling fan comes on at least once

- check CO (% volume or mA or both), if necessary correct to specifications
