Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair

The neutral safety switch is located under the housing at the base of the shift lever.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, loosen setscrew, then remove shifter knob.
2. Remove shifter cover retaining screws, then the cover.
3. Remove two retaining screws, disconnect wiring harness connector, then remove switch.
4. Reverse procedure to install, then check that engine only starts with selector in the P or N position.
5. Adjust switch as needed by loosening switch retaining screws and moving switch body.
