Control unit for airbag, removing/ installing


Removing

^ disconnect battery ground cable


CAUTION

Wait 20 minutes while airbag system capacitor discharges, before working on airbag system.

^ remove center console
^ remove knee bar panel
^ remove steering column trim





^ remove shear nuts (arrows) from control unit
^ use Tool No. 9259

^ remove deceleration sensor connectors, left and right
^ located under instrument panel, next to A-pillars

^ disconnect 6-point connector from airbag wiring harness
^ connector located behind fuse/relay panel





^ disconnect connectors 1 and 2 (arrows), located on steering column
^ loosen tie wrap
^ remove airbag control unit

Installing

^ install control unit assembly in reverse order of removal

Note

Use new shear nuts to mount control unit. During tightening, top of shear nut breaks off when correct torque has been reached.
