Vehicle Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

CAUTION: Before working on the electrical system obtain radio security code and disconnect the battery ground strap.

NOTE: Signals from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) (G54) are required for the vehicle speed dependent systems. On vehicles with mechanical speedometer the sender is screwed to the back of the instruments and transmits 7 impulses per speedometer cable revolution. Inductive sender (2 pole) or Camshaft Position Sensor (3 pole) are used.




On reverse side of instrument cluster. carefully break part -A- off along perforated line.




Insert speedometer sensor in the resulting opening and secure with cross-head screw -3-.




Ensure that the printed circuit -3- contacts the sensor spring contacts, wrinkle free.




Secure contact plate -A- With screws -B-.
