Starting and Charging: Application and ID
CAUTION: Before working on the electrical system, obtain radio security code, turn off ignition and disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap
CAUTION: Disconnecting the battery may cause the basic setting of the Engine Control Module (ECM) to be erased, causing driveability problems.
Whenever the battery has been disconnected or replaced during a repair the Engine Control Module (ECM) "Basic Setting" must be reestablished using the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST).
1 - Filter cap
2 - Positive (B+) terminal
- Larger diameter than negative (-) terminal
- Clean off any oxidation
3 - Electrolyte level mark
- If necessary, fill to mark with distilled water
4 - Negative plate
- Color: metallic gray
5 - Separator
- Insulator
6 - Positive plate
- Color: dark brown
7 - Negative (-) terminal
- Smaller diameter than positive (B+) terminal
- Clean off any oxidation
