Connecting VAS 5051 Scan Tool




All functions previously performed with the V.A.G 1551 or VAG 1552 can also be performed using the new VAS 5051 tester via operating mode vehicle self-diagnosis.

Special tools and equipment







- VAS 5051 tester
- VAS 5051/1 or VAS 5051/3 diagnostic cable

Test requirements:







- Fuses no. 7, 28, 29, 32 and 34 must be OK.
- Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 volts.
- Ground (GND) connection between engine (at bell housing) and chassis (below battery) OK.

Connect VAS5051






- Connect connector of VAS 5051/1 or VAS 5051/3 diagnostic wire to Data Link Connector (DLC).

Select operating mode:
- Press "Vehicle Self-Diagnosis" selection on display.

Select vehicle system:
- Press "01 - Engine Electronics" on display.

Display will indicate the control module identification and the Engine Control Module (ECM) coding, e.g.

If coding does not match vehicle equipment:
- Check control module coding, code Engine Control Module (ECM) if necessary.

Select diagnostic function:

Display shows all relevant diagnostic functions.
- Select the desired function on display.


NOTE: The display fields in functions 04 - basic setting and 08 - Read Measuring Value Block are listed from top to bottom.
