Checking Instrument Cluster

Calling up instrument cluster check mode

Electronic components and instruments in the instrument cluster must match the appropriate vehicle equipment. The electronic unit in each instrument duster has an integrated test facility which can be interrogated to check whether the installed instrument cluster is equipped with the correct electronic components and instruments to ensure that the vehicle specific input signals are processed properly and shown in the display. This check mode for the instrument panel can be used for troubleshooting and should be interrogated in all cases of complaints concerning the function of the instrument cluster.

Calling up check mode:

- Switch ignition on.
- Press trip recorder knob.
- Keep trip recorder knob depressed an switch ignition off and then on again.

The selected function number and data appear in the display in the speedometer. By repeatedly pressing the trip recorder knob the functions listed in the table can be called up one after the other.

- Distance impulse number:
- If the indicated value does not agree with the distance impulse number on the chart, the distance is calculated incorrectly.
- The distance impulse number is a constant engine specific value with which the driven distance can be calculated.
Example: Distance Impulse number (from chart) x distance driven = 3838 x 0.5 km = 1919 distance impulse.
- By switching off ignition, the test mode is switched off.
