Front Cross-Member: Service and Repair: Overview


Subframe, stabilizer, torsion bar, control arm and shock absorber, removing and installing





Notes:
^ If it should be necessary to move a vehicle whose drive axle has been removed, then before doing so install an outer joint in place of the drive axle and tighten it with 50 Nm, or else wheel bearing will be damaged.
^ Specified values for wheel alignment, refer to Alignment, Specifications.
^ Welding and straightening work on supporting or wheel carrying components of the front suspension is not permitted.
^ Always replace self locking nuts.
^ Always replace corroded bolts/nuts.

1 - Hexnut, tighten to 160 Nm
2 - Shock absorber
^ discard
^ Check shock absorber for leaks and noises
3 - Hexnut, tighten to 25 Nm
4 - Washer
^ Collar points downward
5 - Upper bearing ring
6 - Shock absorber mount
7 - Hexnut, tighten to 100 Nm
8 - Stop buffer
9 - Spacer tube
10 - Lower bearing ring
11 - Hex bolt, 100 Nm
12 - Cylinder bolt
^ 80 Nm +90° (1/4 turn)
^ Always replace after disassembly
13 - Pendulum supports
^ Unbolt and bolt in, from Unit Support Removing and Installing.
14 - Hex bolt 200 Nm
^ Always replace after disassembly
15 - Unit support
16 - Clamp
17- Hex bolt, 55 Nm
18 - Weld nut
^ Repair if damaged
19 - Stabilizer bearing
20 - Stabilizer bar
23.5 mm
21 - Stabilizer bar
^ 27 mm
22 - Rubber bearing
23 - Torsion - bar adjustment bolt.
24 - Torsion bar
^ marked in blue at right on facing side
^ marked in yellow at left on facing side
^ Must not be swapped
^ Check for paint damage, repair if necessary
25 - Nut for tensioning torsion bar
^ Always replace
^ Measure projecting end of thread before unbolting.
^ Do not loosen using an air wrench
26 - Hex bolt, 160 Nm
^ M14 x 1.5 x 30
27 - Hexnut, tighten to 130 Nm
28 - Hex bolt
^ M 14 x 1.5 x42
29 - Upper control arm
^ Can only be removed with the subframe removed
30 - Hex bolt, 100 Nm
^ M 12 x 1.5 x 32
31 - Hex bolt, 160 Nm
^ M 14 x 1.5 x40
