Engine number ("Engine code letters" and "Serial number") can be found between the Diesel injection pump and the exhaust manifold on the engine block.
There is also a sticker on the timing belt guard showing "Engine code letters" and "Serial number".

The engine number is also included on the vehicle data plate.
