Generator Warning Lamp Does Not Light Up

Generator (GEN) Warning Lamp Does Not Light Up When Ignition Is Switched On

Test conditions:
- Ribbed belt tension and battery voltage OK.
- Ground connections (between engine, body and battery) and generator (GEN) connections must be tight and clean (free of corrosion/oxidation).

Required for troubleshooting:
- Connector Test Kit VW 1594
- Valid wiring diagram


NOTE: New compact generators with a modified shape and different terminal designations will be introduced for Model year 2000. The screwed connection for the B+ wire is marked with B1+, the connection for D+ is marked with L and the connection for W is marked with DFM on the compact generator!
