Drivers Side/passengers Side Head-level Airbag (Wagon), Removing And Installing

NOTE: Removal and installation is described for right side of vehicle. The same instructions apply for removal and installation for the left-hand side.

Removing

CAUTION: Observe safety precautions for working on airbags

- Disconnect vehicle battery.
- Remove upper A-pillars trim.
- Remove upper B-pillars trim, belt end fittings of front seatbelts do not need to be removed while doing so.
- Removing upper C-pillars trim.
- Remove upper D-pillars trim.
- Remove molded headliner with slide/tilt sunroof (Wagon).







CAUTION: Electrostatic charges may result in involuntary deployment of the airbag. Therefore, the mechanic must be electrostatically discharged before disconnecting ignition- and Ground (GND) wires. This is done e.g. by briefly grasping the chassis or door striker.

- Disconnect wiring harness from head-level airbag - 1 -.
- Remove bolt - 2 - (3 Nm).
- Remove two bolts - 3 - (3 Nm).
- Remove bolt - 4 - (3 Nm).
- Remove bolt - 5 - (3 Nm).
- Remove two bolts - 6 - (3 Nm).
- Remove all clips for curtain airbag from body.
- Remove head-level airbag from vehicle via rear lid.

NOTE: Securing clips - 7 -, securing bolts and guide - 8 - must be replaced before installing.

Installing
- Installation is the reverse order of removal.
- Switch ignition on.

CAUTION: Make sure no one is in the vehicle.

- Connect vehicle battery.
