Unit Support (Subframe)

Special Tools and Equipment





^ VAG 1383A engine/transmission hoist





^ VAG 1712 front axle support

Removing
^ Remove noise insulation pan.
^ Remove front wheels.
^ Remove brake caliper and hang on body using tie wire.
^ Disconnect harness connector for ABS sensor wires.
^ Remove fuel tank





^ Unclip wire (arrow) for oxygen sensor at bracket.
^ Separate exhaust system behind front exhaust pipe -1-.
^ Remove heat shield -2- for exhaust system, loosen exhaust system if necessary.
^ Relieve torsion bar, refer to Torsion Bar.
^ Remove bolt for drive axle at steering gear and remove wires from power steering gear if necessary.
^ Disconnect drive axles from final drive.





^ Unbolt pendulum support -1- from transmission.
^ Place VAG1383 transmission support with VAG1712 front axle support below subframe.
^ Remove bolts for subframe.





^ Lower subframe using VAG1383A engine/transmission hoist. Guide torsion bar between separating location of exhaust pipe front/catalytic converter and also guide drive axle past left of transmission.

Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal.
