Compression Pressures, Checking

Special tools and equipment

- 3122 B Spark plug spanner





- VAG 1331 Torque wrench (5-50 Nm)
- VAG 1763 Compression tester

Test conditions
- Engine oil temperature must be at least 30 C

Work sequence
- Remove engine cover.
- Disconnect spark plug connector and remove spark plugs with spark plug spanner 3122B.





- Pull 5 pin connector -1- off ignition coil final stage -2-.
- Remove fuse 28 (fuel pump) or pull connectors off all injectors.
- Have a second technician fully depress accelerator pedal.
- Check compression with compression tester VAG1381/VAG1763, operating starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.

Note: See relevant test unit operating instructions for instructions on how to use test unit.

Compression pressure:
- New: 9 - 14 bar
- Wear limit: 7.5 bar
Permissible difference between all cylinders: 3 bar
