Oil Pressure
Oil Pressure and Switch, Checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Oil pressure gauge (VAG 1342)
• Adapter (VAG 1342/14)
• Voltage tester (VAG 1527B)
• Connector test set (VAG 1594C)
• For the functional check and servicing of the optical and acoustic oil pressure warning.
Test Conditions
• Engine oil level OK
• Engine oil temperature at least 80 °C (176 °F) (radiator fan must start up once)
Oil Pressure
Procedure
- Install the (VAG 1342) with the (VAG 1342/14 ) to the oil filter bracket in place of the sealing plug. Refer to => [ Oil Pressure Switch ].
- Check the oil pressure at different speeds:
• 1500 RPM: at least 1.7 bar
• 2000 RPM: 3.0 to 5.5 bar
• above 2000 RPM: maximum 7.0 bar
If the specified values are not reached:
- Examine the filter intake for contamination.
- Examine the pressure pipe between the oil pump and cylinder block for tightness.
• Also, mechanical damage for example, bearing damage can also be the cause of too low oil pressure.
If a malfunction is found despite insufficient oil pressure:
- Replace the oil pump. Refer to => [ Oil Pump Assembly Overview ] Service and Repair.
The oil pressure must not exceed 7.0 bar.
If 7.0 bar is exceeded:
- Check the oil passages.
Possibly the oil pressure relief valve in the oil pump is plugged.
- Replace the oil pump. Refer to => [ Oil Pump Assembly Overview ] Service and Repair.
