Front Passenger Airbag Unit






Airbag

CAUTION!
Advanced airbags of passenger side in New Beetle sedan or convertible which only partially deployed, can cause severe injuries when second stage suddenly deploys.

When working with airbag systems and transporting airbag units that have not deployed or have not completely deployed, strictly follow safety precautions.

Never dispose of advanced passenger side airbag units of New Beetle sedan or convertible in waste or together with other materials to be scrapped.

Front Passenger Airbag Unit

Removal

- Switch off the ignition.

- Open the front doors.

- Disconnect the battery ground cable.

CAUTION!
Make sure on one is in the vehicle when working on airbag system, especially if airbag system is connected to power source or battery is reconnected.

- Remove the glove compartment for better access to the harness connector.

- Carefully pry lever protector - 5 - for the front passenger airbag out of the instrument panel (it is pushed flush into the instrument panel).

- Tilt protection - 5 - upward.

- Unscrew screws - 9 -, remove airbag unit brackets - 3 -, and disconnect harness connector - 7 - from wiring harness - 8 -.

Always check for latest replacement parts information.





Installation

- Connect electrical harness connector - 7 - to front passenger airbag wiring harness - 8 - (rear part of airbag unit - 1 -).

- Install the airbag on bracket - 3 -.

- Install lever protector - 5 -.

- Insert the lever protector so that it is flush with respect to the instrument panel.

- Close the doors.

- Switch the ignition on.

- Connect the battery ground cable.

DANGER!
Make sure no one is in the vehicle.

After connecting the battery, the vehicle options (radio, clock, electric window regulator) must be checked according to the repair information and/or user manual.

If the voltage of the electronic control module is too low with the ignition switched on, the DTC memory and readiness code must be checked.
