Starter

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)

• Spring-Type Clip Pliers (VAS 5024)

Removing

Always follow the instructions in the Repair Information exactly when disconnecting and connecting the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

- Disconnect the battery => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the air filter housing.

- Slide the cap off the solenoid switch in the - direction of arrow -.






- Remove the positive cable - 1 - and disconnect the connector from terminal 50 - 2 -.






- Disconnect the ground wire from the bolt at the top of the starter - arrow -.






- Remove the bolt at the top of the starter - arrow -.






- Remove the noise insulation.

- Remove the nut - 1 - from the bolt on the bottom of the starter.






- Remove the wire holder - 2 -.

- Unscrew the lower starter mounting bolt - arrow -.






- Remove the starter from the vehicle.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Tighten the threaded connections to the tightening specification found in the overview. Refer to => [ Starter Overview ] Service and Repair.
