Engine: Service and Repair


The engine, transmission and front exhaust pipe are removed as an assembly.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Scribe hood hinge locations, then remove hood.
3. Remove air cleaner, then the engine splash shield.
4. Disconnect gearshift and accelerator linkages.
5. Drain engine coolant.
6. On automatic transmission models, disconnect transmission oil cooler lines at radiator.
7. Remove front grille, then the radiator and cover and fan shroud.
8. Remove air conditioning compressor attaching bolts and drive belt and position compressor aside. Do not disconnect lines from compressor.
9. Remove air conditioning condenser attaching bolts and position condenser aside. Do not disconnect lines from condenser.
10. Disconnect all electrical connectors, water hoses and vacuum lines necessary for engine removal.
11. Raise and support vehicle and drain engine oil.
12. Disconnect driveshaft from transmission.
13. Attaching suitable lifting equipment to engine, then remove front and rear engine mount bolts and the crossmember.
14. Lower vehicle and support transmission with a suitable jack.
15. Remove engine lifting equipment, then attach suitable hoist and remove engine and transmission assembly from vehicle.
