Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Service and Repair

The EGR valve should be checked and cleaned every 12,000 miles and replaced at 24,000 miles on 1974-75 models.

The EGR valve should be checked and cleaned every 15,000 miles and replaced at 30,000 miles on 1976-82 models.

After servicing the EGR valve, the EGR indicator light switch must be reset. To do this, remove the rear cover on the special odometer and depress the white button. The special odometer is located under the dashboard at the rear of the instrument panel.
