Replacement


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Move selector lever to position 2.
3. Remove air cleaner assembly, if necessary.
4. Disconnect kickdown cable from throttle pulley.
5. Raise and support vehicle.
6. Drain fluid from transmission.
7. Disconnect shift control rod from transmission shift lever.
8. Disconnect shift reaction rod from transmission housing.
9. Disconnect electrical connector from overdrive unit, if applicable.
10. Disconnect propeller shaft from transmission.
11. Remove crossmember assembly from vehicle.
12. Remove rear engine mount and exhaust pipe bracket. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
13. On diesel engine models, remove starter motor.
14. On gasoline engine models, remove starter retaining bolts and position starter aside. Remove cover bolts, then the cover for alternate starter motor location, if applicable.
15. On gasoline engine models, remove cover plate from torque converter housing.
16. Disconnect transmission fluid lines.
17. Remove 2 upper bolts from torque converter cover.
18. Remove transmission fluid filler tube.
19. Position a suitable jack under transmission.
20. Remove transmission to engine mounting bolts.
21. Remove torque converter mounting bolts, then pry converter away from flywheel.
22. Remove transmission and torque converter assembly from vehicle. Do not tilt transmission forward when removing from vehicle.
23. Reverse procedure to install.
