Replacement

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect kickdown cable from from throttle pulley.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Position gear selector in Neutral, then disconnect shift control rod from transmission gear lever and shift reaction rod from transmission housing.
5. Remove starter motor attaching bolts, then starter motor.
6. Remove fluid filler tube, then disconnect oil cooler pipes.
7. Loosen bolts on exhaust pipe joint.
8. Disconnect propeller shaft from transmission.
9. Remove crossmember assembly from vehicle.
10. On diesel engines models, remove bolts from coupling flange through hole for starter motor.
11. On gasoline engine models, remove flywheel inspection plate, then bolts from coupling flange.
12. Remove bolts securing torque converter casing with engine, then remove transmission with torque converter. Do not tilt transmission forward when removing from vehicle.
13. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Torque coupling flange bolts to 16 ft. lbs.
b. Torque fluid filler tube to 72 ft. lbs.
