Throttle Body: Testing and Inspection
Checking Throttle Body:
1. Disconnect the intake air hose at the throttle body.
2. Inspect the valve for excessive shaft bushing free-play. Replace throttle body if needed.
3. Check operation of throttle valve and return spring. If valve does not open and close smoothly, clean, adjust (refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES) and/or replace throttle body.
4. With a mirror and flash light, inspect the throttle valve for dirt, oil contamination and build-up.
NOTE: Dirt and oil build-up can cause idle and low RPM driveability problems.
Installing Throttle Housing:
5. If build-up is detected, remove throttle housing by disconnecting the throttle position sensor connector, linkage rod and removing the mounting bolts. Clean throttle valve with suitable solvent. Keep the throttle switch dry.
6. Reinstall throttle housing with new gasket.
