Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Air Distribution Control

Air distribution control is based on signals from the control module (1), which controls the ventilation damper motor (14) and floor/defroster damper motor (15). When set to automatic, the air distribution control (21) computes the air distribution on the basis of the following information:

Outside Temperature (7):
At low outside temperatures, the control module selects the floor/defroster setting, with a proportion of "bi-level" if sunshine is present (2). If the outside temperature is between approx. 10-19°C (50-66°F), various degrees of "bi-level" are selected. Over approx. 20°C (68°F), all air is directed to the ventilation outlets.

The Limit Position (If Applicable) Of The Driver Side Temperature Control (22):
The ventilation setting is selected if the control is set for max. cooling and the floor/defroster setting If the control max. heating is selected.

The Engine Temperature (8, 9):
The defroster setting is selected if the engine is cold, and the outside and interior temperatures are also low, changing to various degrees of floor/defroster as the coolant temperature rises. The transition from defroster to floor/defroster setting takes place more quickly in sunshine.
