Fault Tracing Information

SPECIAL TOOLS
Test box tool No. 981 3190, or equivalent
Volvo scan tool No. 998 8686, or equivalent

CONDITION
- Transmission Control Module (TCM) correctly connected
- Correct memory cassette inserted

POSSIBLE SOURCE
- Poor battery voltage
- Open-circuit, short-circuit to ground or short-circuit to supply voltage in cable to Data Link Connector (DLC)
- Open-circuit in DLC power supply, power ground or signal ground.
- Defective Volvo, or equivalent, Scan Tool (ST), scan tool wiring or transmission.

NOTE: If communications problems only occurs when starting the engine:
^ Connect a battery charger or extra battery.
^ Ensure that the battery charger is set to 12 volts
