HSS and Boron Steel Parts

HSS and boron steel parts

General

Note! These parts (shaded in the picture) must not be straightened or joined as part of body repair work.

HSS
High-strength steel (HSS) is used in certain parts of the body to reinforce vital sections, and to ensure the stiffness and safety of the structure.
HSS panels are used to reduce weight, enabling lighter-gauge materials to be used while maintaining body strength.
Since HSS components can have different yield strengths, the material specified in a particular instance will depend on the location and function of the part.
Among other applications, materials with an extra high yield strength are used in the SIPS system.

Boron steel
The members in the doors are of a new type of hardened steel known as boron steel.
Boron steel is superior to other hardening steels; especially in terms of its higher toughness relative to its hardness, and because of its superior welding and forming characteristics. The material also has an extremely high fatigue strength and wear resistance.
Boron steel is extremely hard and cannot be straightened or drilled.
