Front Seal



Replacing camshafts seal

Front seal

Remove






- spark plugs cover
- two fuel lines clamps
- Lift expansion tank place over engine to one side
- front timing cover
- right front wheel
Remove right fender liner to expose the vibration damper.

Turn engine crankshaft clockwise






The camshaft pulleys should rotate until all the markings correspond.
Remove upper timing cover.

Remove the timing belt






Mark up camshaft pulleys (intake and exhaust respectively).

Remove

- tensioner damping unit
- timing belt, turn to one side.
- camshaft pulleys, use counterhold 999 5199

Remove seal then install new camshaft seal






Remove camshaft seal/seals
Grease and install new seal with drift 999 5449, use a copper mallet. (Drift 999 5449 of the later version is made of plastic.)

Note! Later version sealing rings are removed with an extractor 999 5919, because of the reduced space between the camshaft and sealing ring reinforcement.

Remove






- Air Cleaner (ACL) housing, with hoses
- distributor cover, rotor, holder
- Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor housing and damper
- engine Cooling Fan (FC)
- starter motor

Note! Connectors and hoses for solenoid valve on the Air Cleaner Housing (ACL).

Install gauge 999 5451, 999 5452






Remove blind cover plug and install gauge 999 5451 for the crankshaft, turn the crankshaft counter-clockwise until it stops against the drift.
Install gauge 999 5452 in the rear edge of camshafts and the extensions.

Install






- camshaft pulleys, with two screws so that they precisely act on the pulleys
- tensioner damping unit
- timing belt

Note! Check that the camshaft screw holes are centered, see illustration.

Adjusting the mechanical belt adjuster
If a mechanical belt adjuster is being used, adjust accoreding to Adjusting the Mechanical Belt Adjuster

Tighten timing belt






Remove the lock pin from the tensioner damping unit.
Press hard or knock the belt twice in the direction of arrow (1) and twice in the direction of arrow (2) using a plastic mallet.
Tighten the camshaft pulley screws tighten to 20 Nm
Remove the camshaft locking tool (999 5452) from the rear edge of the camshafts.
Remove crankshaft locking tool 999 5451 (Install plug).
Install timing cover.
Turn the crankshaft two revolutions and check that the markings correspond.

Install






- front timing cover
- expansion tank
- two fuel lines clamps

Install






- Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor housing with damper
- rotor and distributor cover
- Air Cleaner (ACL) housing, with hoses
- spark plugs cover
- starter motor
- engine Cooling Fan (FC)
- fender liner and wheel

Test function

Test run engine.
