Gear-shift position sensor, replacing

Removing the gear-shift position sensor

Preparations




Remove:
- The battery
- The air cleaner housing assembly
- Air inlet manifold
- The battery shelf.
Remove:
- The bracket for the air cleaner (ACL) housing

Removing




Remove:
- Gear cable from the lever
- The lever
- The nut, lock washer and rubber seal from the gear-shift position sensor.
Loosen the bracket for the dipstick pipe.
Remove the two screws from the gear position sensor.
Carefully lift the sensor off the gear shift linkage rod.

Dismantling and assembling the connector

Dismantling




Separate the connector on the gearbox.
Separate the connector. Note the rubber seal.
Separate the cable clamps and disconnect the connector from the gearbox.
Remove the sockets from the connector casing.
Remove the rubber seal from the connector.
Insert a screwdriver between the casing and socket and press in the catch. At the same time, slide the sockets out of the casing.





Detach the socket for the gear-shift position sensor (8-pin) from other sockets.
Remove the gear position sensor.

Assembling




Assemble the socket for the gear-shift position sensor with the other sockets. Install the sockets in the casing and fit the rubber seal in position.
Connect the connector on gearbox.
Install the cable clamps around the cable harness and the rubber seal.
Install the top section of the connector.

Note the rubber seal.

Installation and adjustment of the gear-shift position sensor

Installing




Install the gear-shift position sensor.
Tighten the sensor's securing screws lightly.
Install the rubber washer, lock washer and the nut on the gear shift linkage rod connection.
Tighten the nut.
Lock the nut with the lock washer.

Adjustment




Adjust the gear-shift position sensor according to Checking/adjusting gear-shift position sensor Adjustments.

Installation, cont.
Install:
- The bracket for the dipstick pipe. Ensure that the O-ring on the pipe is in position. Tighten with 25 Nm
- The lever on the gear shift linkage rod. Tighten to 16 Nm
- Gear cable on the lever with washer and circlip. First apply a little grease 1161241-3 on the lever's spindle.

Installing engine compartment components




Install:
- The air filter bracket
- The battery shelf
- The air cleaner (ACL) housing assembly with the intake pipe.
- The battery. Connect the cables.

Checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Check and erase any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
